A wise man’s heart turns him toward the right [which is the way of blessing], but a fool’s heart turns him toward the left [which is the way of condemnation].

Our friend WC Charlie is a student of history. Here he and others shares how it interacts with our faith.

This says it all.

This letter was recently written and sent to the NFL Commissioner (Roger Goodell) It was copied to me by a friend and I'm passing it on in hopes it's articulating your thoughts as it did mine. I can't tell you how much I agree with every word. Now I understand there's a movement to do the same at college sports events and baseball games. I've become a stranger in a strange land. My America is just about gone I'm afraid. At least this gentleman has some pride in his country left in him and is not afraid to admit it. God bless him!.

Subject: To the NFL commissioner

Commissioner;

I've been a season pass holder at Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl and Giants Stadium.  I missed the '90-'91 season because I was with a battalion of Marines in Desert Storm. 14 of my wonderful fellow Marines returned home with the American Flag draped across their lifeless bodies. My last conversation with one of them, Sgt Garrett Mongrella, was about how our Giants were going to the Super Bowl. He never got to see it.

Many friends, Marines, and Special Forces Soldiers who worked with or for me through the years returned home with the American Flag draped over their coffins.

Now I watch multi-millionaire athletes who never did anything in their lives but play a game, disrespect what brave Americans fought and died for. They are essentially spitting in the faces and on the graves of real men, men who have actually done something for this country beside playing with a ball and believing they're something special! They're not! My Marines and Soldiers were!

You are complicit in this!  You'll fine players for large and small infractions but you lack the moral courage and respect for our nation and the fallen to put an immediate stop to this.

Yes, I know, it's their 1st Amendment right to behave in such a despicable manner. What would happen if they came out and disrespected you or the refs publicly?

I observed a player getting a personal foul for twerking in the end zone after scoring. I guess that's much worse than disrespecting the flag and our National Anthem.  Hmmmmm, isn't it his 1st Amendment right to express himself like an idiot in the end zone?

Why is taunting not allowed yet taunting America is OK? You fine players for wearing 9-11 commemorative shoes yet you allow scum on the sidelines to sit, kneel or pump their pathetic fist in the air. They are so deprived with their multi-million dollar contracts for playing a freaking game! You condone it all by your refusal to act. You're just as bad and disgusting as they are. I hope Americans boycott any sponsor who supports that rabble you call the NFL. I hope they turn off the TV when any team that allowed this disrespect to occur, without consequence, on the sidelines. I applaud those who have not.

Legends and heroes do NOT wear shoulder pads. They wear body armor and carry rifles.  They make minimum wage and spend months and years away from their families. They don't do it for an hour on Sunday. They do it 24/7 often with lead, not footballs, coming in their direction. They watch their brothers carted off in pieces not on a gurney to get their knee iced. They don't even have ice! Many don't have legs or arms.

Some wear blue and risk their lives daily on the streets of America. They wear fire helmets and go upstairs into the fire rather than down to safety. On 9-11, hundreds vanished. They are the heroes.

I hope that your high paid protesting pretty boys and you look in that mirror when you shave tomorrow and see what you really are, legends in your own minds. You need to hit the road and take those worms with you!

Time to change the channel.

"Air Trump"

Air Trump

I had the great honor of traveling from New York to Fort Myers, Florida with Donald Trump on Monday. It was so interesting that I thought I would share the experience with you.

Callista and I arrived home from Kiev (seven hours ahead of Washington, D.C.) on Sunday evening. So when I woke up at 6:00 a.m. to catch the shuttle to New York it was already 1:00 p.m. in Ukraine.

The 8:00 a.m. shuttle was supposed to land around 9:30 a.m. at the Delta Terminal at LaGuardia and I was planning to go next door to Sheltair Aviation, which is the private plane side of the Marine Air Terminal. The first complication was an air traffic control hold which lasted 45 minutes as we sat on the ground at Reagan National Airport. Then we were told we were going to have to go west, practically to Cleveland, to get around a huge thunderstorm system. I fly so much that I either sleep or read books on my iPad. Frankly, I would rather land later and miss the thunderstorms than try to go through them.

We finally arrived at LaGuardia at 10:55 a.m., a mere one hour and 25 minutes behind schedule. Fortunately, Trump was not leaving until 11:30 a.m. so we were in good shape.

The Trump Airplane is very impressive. It was parked near Vice President Joe Biden's official Air Force plane (Air Force Two). Both planes are Boeing 757s but Donald Trump's plane is dramatically more comfortable and spacious.

The Trump plane has a section for Secret Service (about a dozen Secret Service agents travel with a presidential candidate), a section for staff working on speeches and other campaign business, a very comfortable set of chairs with tables for the candidate, his immediate advisers and friends, a living room for watching TV, two meeting rooms and a private bedroom with a shower for Trump to freshen up before big events.

One of Trump's great advantages throughout the nominating process was having a plane he liked with the comfortable sense of a traveling living room. When his plane is in the air he has DirecTV so he can keep up with the news 24 hours a day. The plane also has wireless internet so people can work wherever they are.

It is an enormous advantage for Donald Trump to travel with minimum friction and maximum familiarity. He is also helped by a crew on the plane that knows him and enjoys working with him.

On the way to Fort Myers we discussed the upcoming rally. There had been 31,000 acceptances before the campaign cut it off. Now we were on the way to an arena that held only 10,000 people. There was an overflow hall that held thousands more with giant TV screens. Finally, as we drove up, there were even more people stretched along the road for almost a mile.

This was the kind of enthusiastic outpouring Reagan and Obama had when they ran.

By contrast, Hillary Clinton spoke to 300 supporters in Philadelphia that same day.

This 100 to one Trump versus Clinton popular response is part of why her 5:1 advantage in advertising has not been able to knock Trump out.

Donald Trump is gaining in earned media and social media almost as much as Hillary Clinton is buying.

In addition, if 10,000 plus people attend your rally they are each likely to share pictures and updates via email and social media. Dan Scavino is the Trump guru for social media and he reaches an amazing number of people.

We spent a lot of time while flying down to Florida talking about the Minnesota and New York-New Jersey terror attacks and the left's total confusion.

We also discussed the stunning dishonesty of CNN editing the word bomb out of Hillary's initial comments so they could attack Trump for using the word. A lot of the elite media attacked Trump for saying the explosion was a bomb.

It was a bomb. Trump was right.

This is a good example of why many Americans increasingly like Trump and dislike the news media.

All the way to Florida, Stephen Miller, a very hard working and extremely competent senior speech writer was editing Trump’s speech to make it hard hitting with the latest facts.

I got to watch Kellyanne Conway, an old friend, work as campaign manager. She and Steve Bannon, assisted by Dave Bossie, have brought new levels of drive and energy to the Trump campaign.

I chatted with Donald off and on throughout the trip. He learns very fast. He was quizzing me about Governor Deal in Georgia, what I had learned in Ukraine over the weekend, and how to handle the debates (I told him he was a better debater than I am and he should follow his instincts).

We had a lengthy discussion regarding how to treat Americans who become terrorists. This is an important topic I will write more about in the next few days.

When we arrived in Fort Myers for the rally, Trump taped a segment for The O’Reilly Factor and I went out as the warm up act. The crowd went wild and we had a great time. You can see my "warm up" talk here

Newt at Trump rally

Then Trump gave a terrific speech. He is increasingly presidential and drew the lines with Hillary very clearly and forcefully. The crowd loved him.

We had a quick flight back kicking around ideas and I then jumped on the Acela and arrived in Washington around midnight.

It was a very educational and encouraging day.

Your Friend,
Newt

An Interesting piece of forgotten U.S. History

When Jefferson saw there was no negotiating with Muslims, he formed what is the now the Marines (sea going soldiers).

These Marines were attached to U. S. Merchant vessels.

When the Muslims attacked U.S. merchant vessels, they were repulsed by armed soldiers, but there is more.

The Marines followed the Muslims back to their villages and killed
every man, woman, and child in the village. It didn't take long for
the Muslims to leave U.S. Merchant vessels alone.

English and French merchant vessels started running up our flag when entering the Mediterranean to secure safe travel.

Why the Marine Hymn contains the verse.."to the shores of Tripoli?"
This is very interesting and a must read piece of our history. It
points out where we may be heading.  Most Americans are unaware of the fact that over two hundred years ago, the United States had declared war on Islam [no, it wasn’t that way and the article clears this further down] and Thomas Jefferson led the charge!

At the height of the 18th century, Muslim pirates (the "Barbary
Pirates") were the terror of the Mediterranean and a large area of the North Atlantic.

They attacked every ship in sight and held the crews
for exorbitant ransoms. Those taken hostage were subjected to barbaric treatment and wrote heart-breaking letters home, begging their government and family members to pay whatever their Mohammedan captors demanded.

These extortionists of the high seas represented the North African
Islamic nations of Tripoli, Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers collectively
referred to as the Barbary Coast - and presented a dangerous and
unprovoked threat to the new American Republic.

Before the Revolutionary War, U.S. merchant ships had been under the protection of Great Britain. When the U.S. declared its independence and entered into war, the ships of the United States were protected by France. However, once the war was won, America had to protect its own fleets.

Thus, the birth of the U.S. Navy.

Beginning in 1784, 17 years before he would become president, Thomas Jefferson became America's Minister to France.

That same year, the U.S. Congress sought to appease its Muslim adversaries by following in the footsteps of European nations
who paid bribes to the Barbary States rather than engaging them in
war.

In July of 1785, Algerian pirates captured American ships, and the
Dye of Algiers demanded an unheard-of ransom of $60,000. It was a plain and simple case of extortion, and Thomas Jefferson was
vehemently opposed to any further payments. Instead, he proposed to Congress the formation of a coalition of allied nations who together could force the Islamic states into peace.

A disinterested Congress decided to pay the ransom.

In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams met with Tripoli's
ambassador to Great Britain to ask by what right his nation attacked American ships and enslaved American citizens, and why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

The two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul
Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran that all nations who would not acknowledge their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussel man (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Despite this stunning admission of premeditated violence on
non-Muslim nations, as well as the objections of many notable American leaders, including George Washington, who warned that caving in was both wrong and would only further embolden the enemy.

The following fifteen years the American government paid the Muslims millions of dollars for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages. The payments in ransom and tribute amounted to over 20 percent of the United States government annual revenues in 1800.

Jefferson was disgusted. Shortly after his being sworn in as the
third President of the United States in 1801, the Pasha of Tripoli
sent him a note demanding the immediate payment of $225,000 plus $25,000 a year for every year forthcoming.

That changed everything.

Jefferson let the Pasha know, in no uncertain terms, what he could do with his demand. The Pasha responded by cutting down the flagpole at the American consulate and declared war on the United States.

Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers immediately followed suit.

Jefferson, until now, had been against America raising a naval force for anything beyond coastal defense, but, having watched his nation be cowed by Islamic thuggery for long enough, decided that it was finally time to meet force with force.

He dispatched a squadron of frigates to the Mediterranean and taught the Muslim nations of the Barbary Coast a lesson he hoped they would never forget. Congress authorized Jefferson to empower U.S. ships to seize all vessels and goods of the Pasha of Tripoli and to "cause to be done all other acts of precautoion or hostility as the state of war would justify".

When Algiers and Tunis, who were both accustomed to American
cowardice and acquiescence, saw the newly independent United States had both the will and the right to strike back, they quickly abandoned their allegiance to Tripoli. The war with Tripoli lasted for four more years and raged up again in 1815. The bravery of the U.S. Marine Corps in these wars led to the line"...to the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine Hymn, and they would forever be known as "leathernecks" for the leather collars of their uniforms, designed to prevent their heads from being cut off by the Muslim scimitars when boarding enemy ships.

Islam, and what its Barbary followers justified doing in the name of
their prophet and their god, disturbed Jefferson quite deeply. America had a tradition of religious tolerance. In fact Jefferson, himself, had co-authored the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, but fundamentalist Islam was like no other religion the world had ever seen. A religion based on supremacy, whose holy book not only condoned but mandated violence against unbelievers, was unacceptable to him.
His greatest fear was that someday

this brand of Islam would return
and pose an even greater threat to the United States.

This should concern every American. That Muslims have brought about women-only classes and swimming times at taxpayer-funded universities and public pools; that Christians, Jews, and Hindus have been banned from serving on juries where Muslim defendants are being judged; Piggy banks and Porky Pig tissue dispensers have been banned from workplaces because they offend Islamist sensibilities; ice cream has been discontinued at certain Burger King locations because the picture on the wrapper looks similar to the Arabic script for Allah; public schools are pulling pork from their menus.

But in turn several American companies have placed the Muslim symbol on their products in the name of Allah;

and on and on and on and on.

It's death by a thousand cuts, or inch-by-inch as some refer to it,
and most Americans have no idea that this battle is being waged every day across America. By not fighting back, by allowing groups to obfuscate what is really happening, and not insisting that the
Islamists adapt to our own culture, the United States is cutting its
own throat with a politically correct knife, and helping to further
the Islamists agenda. Sadly, it appears that today America's leaders
would rather be politically correct than victorious!

Jefferson vs. the Muslim World."
